Graduates' Sharing

The programme provided different learning experience both in the classroom and through encounters with professional designers. The experience was very useful for my further study and career development. With my teachers' support and encouragement, I have successfully articulated to the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Visual Arts programme.

The content of this programme is in-depth and diversified, such as covering areas of aviation, cruise, hotel, and travel industry, etc., which does not only give me a deeper understanding of the hospitality industry, but also enhances my passion and determination to join the hospitality industry. Moreover, this programme also provides me an internship opportunity. This precious arrangement allows me to gain knowledge in the real-life work environment, which is not able to be obtained from text books, and increases my essential work experience of the industry. As a result, this programme allows me to obtain a wealth of knowledge both in theory and actual work experience.

Having graduated from Higher Diploma in Tourism Management (Hospitality), I am now working as a DEMI CHEF in a 2-stars Michelin French restaurant in The Landmark Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong. Knowing my passion in cooking, HKCT’s teachers encouraged me to participate in mega cooking competition “Gourmet Lady Master Chefs．Global Challenge” to broaden my horizon. With the support of the college, I eventually landed an internship at the Michelin restaurant, even though the restaurant only occasionally offers internship to local students. I embarked my career as a preparation cook and, with great honour, I was promoted every year. It is concrete evidence that reflects the pluralistic nature of experiential learning in my study and proves the programme is in line with the vocational and professional education and training.

Learning in Hong Kong College of Technology was a pleasant experience for me. I have learnt different development approaches for different kinds of apps and games in this programme. I developed a web with my classmates to promote smart spending in ‘The Chin Family Personal Finance Ambassador Programme’ and won the ‘Excellent Financial Education Project Bronze Award’. I enjoyed the internship opportunity to work as a mobile app developer in the Science Park. I had the honour to receive the EDB ‘SPSS Outstanding Performance Scholarship’. After graduation, I chose to further study and major in computing and interactive entertainment at university to pursue my dream of being a game developer.

The curriculum of the two-year Higher Diploma programme is intensive. Besides two main modules, sport coaching and management, it also includes sports trauma, individual and team sports training and sports psychology. The Programme has improved my communication and leadership skills of being a coach. I have come to realise that a coach is not just teaching sports, but also provides trainees with support and suitable training advices after understanding their needs.

Apart from the curriculum, Department of Student Development also provides us with different activities and services in order to explore our potential, broaden our social network, and even let us apply what we learnt from classroom to show our strengths. The teaching staff of HKCT are just like our friends. They help us patiently to solve our problems and difficulties by sharing their valuable experiences with us.

The Applied Translation Studies Programme integrates theory into practice. Lectures are dedicated to teaching and prepare a wide range of articles and films for students to practice, so that I can master different aspects of translation and interpretation skills. The two-year learning journey at CUSCS has benefited me a lot.

The Higher Diploma programme in Hotel Management allowed me to recognise my future goal and paved the way to develop my career in the hotel industry. The wide-ranging courses equipped me with professional management knowledge in the industry, and provided me with the cornerstone for my future career. Besides, HPSHCC highlights diversified personal development. As a Student Ambassador of HPSHCC, I had the opportunity to welcome guests and to become an emcee (mc) at the college event. Thank you for providing us with precious learning opportunities outside the classroom.

Determined to become a social worker since she was a secondary student, Ka-mei learned that HKCC’s Higher Diploma in Social Work is a reputable programme, through which she hoped to realise her aspiration. She thought the learning environment in secondary schools was completely different from that in tertiary institutions, so she was concerned about adaptation in the beginning. Fortunately, all her lecturers and classmates were very friendly, helping her ease herself into the new environment. She said the programme provided a lot of internship opportunities for students to choose their favourite one that suited their interests. Even if they could not participate in all internship activities, they could learn about the real workplace from lecturers’ sharing regarding their rich frontline experience. She particularly mentioned the communication platform provided by the College for students to express their opinions, such as class schedules and arrangements for subject selection. Ka-mei was honoured on the HKCC Director’s List and received the PolyU HKCC Outstanding Student Award (Bronze Award).

During my studies in IVE, not only did I learn marketing knowledge, but also had chance to attach in Hung Fook Tong. Our group needed to study Chinese herbal tea and to present our marketing research report to the CEO. This memorable experience allowed me to put theories from classroom into practice, and assured my further studies and career direction. It built a good foundation for my later studies in the UK and my current job.

Learning at IVE was a turning point in my life. Teacher in IVE has inspired me to be a passionate social worker. Their teaching enthusiasm let me experience that social work cannot be treated as a job, but being devoted in serving people in need. In addition, the practical knowledge of social work learnt at IVE, equipped me with professional knowledge and attitude.

This practical programme provided me the latest knowledge and skills required for employment and further study. It also aroused my interest in data science and information technology with personal advice and encouragement from lecturers. I was offered many opportunities to attend seminars, competitions and internship, which allowed me to learn from the expertise in the industry. The programme provided many internship opportunities for us. LIFE and the internship kindergartens provided various support to me. For example, the instructor gave me practical advice when I needed to design a teaching plan. In addition, I had the opportunity to participate in different types of school activities such as birthday parties, picnics and graduation ceremonies so that I could better understand the working environment of kindergartens and would be of great help to my future career.

My name is Afsar Bilal. My two years journey in LIFE was unforeseeable. In the beginning, I only could imagine what my school life looked like based on what I had heard people talk about this college (LIFE). However, through my studies in LIFE, I realised that LIFE is enriched with Scholarships, Mentor programmes, Extra-curricular activities, and so forth that fulfil personal interest while fostering inclusion.

I am truly extraordinary by how LIFE teachers concerned about us. They are eager to offer help in any aspects, either academically, financially or in sports. No doubts, I did face challenges and obstacles during my studies but LIFE has given me a chance to solve my problems and sharpen my skills in my field of choice. There have been, and there will continue to be, many opportunities for everyone to receive.

The Accounting Internship helped me secure an internship at Deloitte, which exposed me to new practical knowledge and experiences. The vision and style of teaching at the College really enhanced my overall perspective, critical thinking and confidence, which helped me start my career at PwC after graduation.

I am a graduate of BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance at Hong Kong Institute of Technology. I failed the Chinese Language in 2015 HKDSE, while HKIT has provided me an opportunity to study a degree programme offered jointly by the Institute and the UK University.

In the first year of studies, the careful guidance and teaching of the lecturers allowed me to achieve a good academic result - and I was honoured to be awarded the Outstanding Performance Scholarship. In the second year, I joined the exchange programme to Teesside University in the U.K. The teaching style in the U.K. was quite different from that in Hong Kong, it was more interactive with emphasis in the students’ critical thinking skills. Apart from the academic support, the university also provided assistance in helping international students adapt to the life in the U.K. It was really a fruitful and enjoyable time.

My fashion design knowledge and techniques have been enhanced during my study at HKDI. I was selected to be sponsored for a study trip in England to learn the latest fashion technology.

People generally think that sub-degree studies is not useful. In my opinion, my two years of study at HPSHCC gave me the opportunity to realise my goals.

The College provided us with a good study environment. Our Principal, Vice Principal and the college lecturers were friendly and sincere. They all gave us support and encouragement. Furthermore, the student counselors offer useful advice on further studies and problems that I faced. Without their support, I am not who I am today.

The Higher Diploma in Hospitality Management (Travel and Tourism) programme not only offers the basic knowledge of tourism and event management, but also allows us to learn more through industrial placement, site visits, guest lectures and mentorship programme.  Participating a 6-month industrial placement in Madame Tussauds Hong Kong, it enabled me to understand and developed my career goal in the tourism industry.

The enthusiastic and professional instructors teach us not only knowledge and skills, but also help us to cultivate our goals and future prospects.  Studying at the College serves as a milestone relocating myself with my interest and facilitates my personal growth.

I am working at Hong Kong Aviation Ground Services Limited (HAGSL) as Customer Services Officer.

I could express the feeling of receiving the Reaching out Scholarship, which could not be described through wordings, with my excitement and speechless gratitude only. This was an award I had never achieved before, and I was able to travel to Japan for exchange because of the scholarship. The juncture provided an irreplaceable learning experience which was valuable, unforgettable and meaningful to me.

The significance of the scholarship was great towards the students and it should be recognized. It provided an opportunity to the students for learning and exchanging to other countries. It is pleased to hear that the scholarship will exist in the future, and benefits the students to enrich their life.

Xavier completed both his Yi Jin Diploma and Higher Diploma programmes at LiPACE. He was given an internship opportunity at the housekeeping department of an international hotel, where his hard work and positive attitude was highly commended by his supervisor. After graduated, he worked full-time as a concierge of another hotel for a year. “I have learnt to ‘walk an extra mile’ to make customers feel at home.” Xavier is now a student of OUHK’s “Bachelor of Hospitality Management”.

The International College campus offers me an incredible learning environment. The professors from Plymouth University are friendly and helpful during my study. Also, I was able to maximize my potential through joining extra-curricular activities held by students union which enrich my university life.

Study is a vital part of life. This year, I have derived much pleasure, and also some success, in my studies in SCOPE. The interaction between the teachers and classmates was both enjoyable and valuable. The programme has fostered my bilingual development, while reminding me curiosity is a fuel for finding a successful direction. I’m so grateful!

I met dedicated teachers at CUSCS who have taught me to tackle difficulties and move forward. Their guidance and encouragement is, indeed, my motivation to learn. The internship opportunity at InterContinental Hong Kong offered by the School also helped me gain hands-on experience in a real-life working environment, and understand the importance of proactive learning. I am more confident now to develop my career in this direction.

HKCT supplies us with career-related information, such as company visits and seminars, to let us understand more about the market and human resources. Zack has always been determined to embark on a career in aircraft engineering, so he decided to enrol in HKCC’s Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering in order to prepare himself for further studies and career development in his chosen field. “The programme not only imparted knowledge of mechanical engineering to students, but also required students to understand real-world operations so as to consolidate the knowledge learned. Apart from using the Metal and Wood Workshop, we also attended classes at the Industrial Centre of PolyU. Going through different practical training subjects and practice sessions in the labs, we were able to acquire the specialised skills of our field.”

In their final group project, the mission of Zack and his teammates was that of designing a robotic arm model. Starting with purchasing materials and parts up to the final assembly, they had to pay meticulous attention to every detail in every step of the process. “Although we encountered a lot of difficulties along the way, we were able to solve them one by one, thanks to the gentle guidance from our lecturers.” Zack said that the programme he studied at HKCC provided him with a firm foundation in knowledge and theory, and helped him adapt quickly to his university studies.

I have always been interested in healthcare study. Therefore, I applied to CICE once I knew they offered HD in Health Care, Nutrition and Physical Fitness programme.  At CICE, lecturers always showed their passion in teaching and a positive attitude.  They offered extra help to students who had difficulties in learning with patience. Moreover, the programme was very practical which helped me build up my confidence.  After graduation, I was admitted to Hospital Authority’s registered nurse programme.  I look forward to becoming a nurse and provide outstanding care to patients.

I am Joanna Tse, major in Supply Chain Management. Throughout this 4-year journey, I found my career goal and my friends. There are lots of opportunities which nurture me to be a better person and a supply chain management professional.

I joined various mentorship programmes to meet with different industrial professionals, they gave me lots of advises on my career development and personal growth. With the support of my department, I won the 1st-runner up in both the CILTHK Student Day and CILTHK YMC Pitch Competition; not only my profile was flourished, but more industrial insights.

Apart from career development, HSMC also provided me plenty of opportunities to develop and enhance my personal skills. Being the captain of HSMC Women’s Volleyball Team, I learnt to be a more cheerful and considerate leader. Teammates I met are not just my friends, but my life buddies who always encourage and support me.

I enjoyed my college life in HSMC as this place provided me a lot of opportunities to learn and to grow. As a graduate, I do hope that you can treasure the time of being a student, seize every single opportunity to try, to fail, and to grow. Thank you.

When I was a freshman in the Accounting and Banking programme, I dreamed of becoming a financial controller in a multinational corporation. During my four years of undergraduate studies, I learned a lot of accounting and business knowledge. Upon graduation, I joined AIA through an internship programme. 

I am grateful for what I learned and experienced at Chu Hai. Although there were some language barriers at the beginning, my teachers were always there to look after me and help me adapt to the new environment. This is where I learned how to treat people with warmth and sincerity.

I have been a Wealth Management Manager at AIA for more than two years. I have become one of the top 20 agents among the 14000 representatives in AIA Hong Kong & Macao in both 2016 and 2017. I am good at planning from my clients’ perspectives and thus developed a close relationship with them. I will always remember what I learned not only in classes but also from the culture of the College and my kind teachers.

Pharmaceutical dispensing is a specialized subject which helps the society cope with the future population’s medical needs and add value to my career development. In Caritas Bianchi College of Careers (CBCC), workshops and laboratories are established in a realistic and simulated hospital setting for students’ learning. The school also provided us precious internship opportunities in public and private hospitals. These experiences are very useful to my future career. I have also received two scholarships from the College and the Government for my outstanding academic achievement. In addition to supporting my full year's tuition fee, the scholarships are the recognition of my hard work which made me feel so contented and inspired. I am so glad to see the success, life changes, and the progress that I have made after studying in CBCC.

My voluntary work experience in hospitals inspired me to choose TWC’s Occupational Therapy programme in the hope of helping patients through appropriate treatments and care. At TWC, I was given not only the opportunity to have clinical placements at hospitals and NGOs, but also the chance to join an overseas study tour in Australia to understand the daily works of professional occupational therapists.
